The Brooklyn Coalition of Early Childhood Programs is a coalition of passionate early childhood
leaders, who have come together to ensure that the full scope of early childhood spaces thrive.
We represent a rich and varied selection of programs. With one powerful voice, we advocate
for policies that benefit educators, families and society as a whole.
We are committed to keeping Brooklyn’s youngest children safe and to following all new health
and safety guidelines outlined by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. In the
absence of citywide guidelines, we have created new policies and procedures that align with
the CDC’s recommendations. The following plan provides an overview of how we are preparing
to safely reopen our doors.
Note: This plan is subject to change based on incoming citywide guidelines.
A staff member will perform a health check (e.g., take temperature; check for symptoms) with each child prior to entering the building.
All classes will be reduced in size so as to minimize potential transmission and exposure of the virus.
Staggered arrival and dismissal times will be required to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Any child or staff member who is sick or demonstrates even mild symptoms will not be allowed into the building.
No visitors will be allowed into the building. A staff member will meet families at the door during arrival/departure.
If a member of our community tests positive for COVID-19, the affected classroom will close for a deep cleaning.
Each teacher will be assigned one group of children. There will no longer be “floaters” or teachers who see multiple classes.
All staff will undergo thorough training of COVID-19 symptoms and preventative precautions prior to reopening.
All children and staff will be required to wash hands every 90 minutes.
Enhanced sanitizing products will be used to disinfect our spaces on a daily basis.
The use of face coverings and other protective gear will be required for all staff at all times during the school day.
No toys or materials from outside of the school building will be permitted.
Whenever possible, schools will use outdoor play areas and maximize airflow throughout their facilities.
Food will no longer be communal. All food will be brought from home and individually wrapped for safety.
